A 28-year-old man was fatally shot late Thursday night in Waterford Township, outside the MJR Waterford Cinema on M-59, police said.
A 24-year-old West Bloomfield man has been arrested and booked as the suspected shooter.
According to a news release from Waterford Police Chief Scott Underwood, the shooting was not a random act. As an investigation continues detectives are looking for potential witnesses and gathering more information.

As stated in the news release, a 911 call came in at around 11:30 p.m. about a man “down from an apparent gunshot wound” in the theater parking lot at 7501 Highland Road — also known as M-59. The man, shot in the upper chest, was treated at the scene by Waterford Regional Fire Department personnel and then transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Detectives reportedly worked throughout the night and identified one suspect. Waterford and West Bloomfield police executed a search warrant in West Bloomfield Township, and the suspect was taken into custody, police said. He’s in the Oakland County Jail.
Anyone with further information about the shooting is asked to contact Det. Sgt. Scott Sawyer at 248-618-6108.
The Oakland Press will report more on the shooting as information becomes available.
