One of three drivers involved in a multi-vehicle crash in Troy recently had a blood alcohol content that was more than three times the legal limit, according to police.

The collision happened in the early evening of Nov. 7, near John R and East Big Beaver roads, and the other two drivers reported having minor injuries, police said. Officers who spoke with the third driver, a 62-year-old Sterling Heights man, noted he had slurred speech and “a strong odor of intoxicants coming from his person,” police said.

After performing poorly on several sobriety tests, the man submitted to a preliminary breath test that measured his BAC at 22% so he was arrested, police said. At the Troy lock-up facility, breath tests measured his BAC at .26% and .27%, police said. The man was cited for operating with a blood alcohol content of .17% or  more and failure to stop “in assured clear distance,” police said.

In another recent drunk driving incident in Troy, police said a man found slumped over the steering wheel while his vehicle’s engine was running outside a business on Rochester Road on Nov. 8 had a BAC of .30%. The driver, a 41-year-old Troy man, was awakened by officers and showed signs of intoxication before submitting to a preliminary breath test, police said. That test measured his BAC at .24%, police said, and at the Troy lock-up facility breath tests measured his BAC at .305% and .309%, police said.

Officers reportedly found an open and partially-consumed bottle of bourbon in the car, on the front passenger seat.

The man was cited for operating with a blood alcohol content of .17% or more and open intoxicants in a vehicle.
