A Farmington Hills man is facing multiple charges after allegedly shooting at his wife and barricading himself in their home.

According to Farmington Hills Police, the alleged shooter’s wife said he was intoxicated at the time of the incident, which happened Nov. 30 at around 5:30 p.m. No injuries were reported.

Paul Holland, 44, is charged with felonious assault, discharging a firearm in a building, and two counts of felony firearm for the shooting/barricading at the residence in the 29000 block of Ramblewood Dr., near 14 Mile and Middlebelt roads.

As stated in a news release from the Farmington Hills Police Department, officers called to the scene said the wife told them Holland was intoxicated and became aggressive toward her so she armed herself with a firearm in self defense. Holland then armed himself with two handguns and began shooting into the home’s ceiling and walls, and towards her. She fled the home and met with police who “ensured her safety,” the news release states.

Holland ignored police orders to exit the home, so a search warrant was obtained and the  Oakland County Sheriff’s SWAT team forced its way into the home and arrested him.

At arraignment Dec. 2, Holland’s bond was set at $250,000, with a 10 percent provision. His next court appearance is scheduled for Dec. 11.

“I am extremely proud of the heroic actions of the women and men of the Farmington Hills Police Department,” Farmington Hills Police Chief Jeff King stated in the news release. “They were calm and courageous in the face of danger and were able to expertly de-escalate a violent situation that could have resulted in great harm to those involved, as well as the neighboring community.” King also expressed gratitude to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office for its assistance.

Last Saturday’s incident was the fifth incident this year in Farmington Hills of domestic violence involving a shooting. According to the police department, there’s a coordinated effort among multiple community partners working toward prevention by “reaching out to people in crisis” and making them aware of available services.
