The two Wayne County men accused of slaying Rochester Hills businessman Hussein Murray are scheduled for a preliminary exam in 52-3 District Court on Dec. 18, where a judge will determine if there’s probable cause for the case to move forward.
Murray was found dead Oct. 11 in the basement of his Rochester Hills home on Newcastle Street. Investigators say the two posed as DTE workers to get inside, killed Murray and tied up his wife. She subsequently managed to call 911.

Carlos Jose Hernandez, 37, and Joshua Zuazo, 39, are charged with homicide-felony murder and two counts of unlawful imprisonment. Hernandez was arrested in Louisiana on Oct. 12 and subsequently extradited to Oakland County. Zuazo was arrested Oct. 14 in Plymouth Township.
Murray was the owner of Gold & Glitter Jewelry in Hamtramck. Investigators have said it’s believed Murray was targeted in connection with his business.
Hernandez and Zuazo are in the Oakland County Jail, denied bond. On Dec. 4, Hernandez’s attorney Paulette Loftin asked 52-3 District Judge Laura Polizzi to set bond for him and perhaps place him on house arrest, citing health reasons which include diabetes and the need for a CPAP machine for his obstructive sleep apnea. The judge said it was in the interest of public safety to keep Hernandez in jail.
