Troy police are seeking a suspect who allegedly struck a man with a handgun in his driveway.

Officers were dispatched to a home on Wilmet Drive, in the area of East Long Lake Road and John R Road, at about 2 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, on a report of an assault and possible robbery.

The 46-year-old resident told police he came home and was confronted by an unknown Black man wearing a ski mask in the driveway. The suspect produced a handgun and struck him with it.

The two men struggled over the gun and a single round was discharged into an unoccupied vehicle. The suspect then fled the scene.

“At this time, we believe this was a targeted crime and there is no enhanced threat to public safety,” police said in a statement. An investigation is ongoing.

The resident was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Troy police thanked several police departments who assisted in the investigation immediately following the incident, including Birmingham, Royal Oak, Sterling Heights, Clawson, Beverly Hills and the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.
