Fire broke out at a Brandon Township home Monday evening, causing extensive damage and leaving the house uninhabitable for now.
Fire Chief Dave Kwapis told The Oakland Press that the blaze at a modular home on Deer Lane was reported at around 6:45 p.m. Two people and their dogs were home at the time but managed to escape without injury, he said.
“There are no injuries but a lot of damage — it may be a total loss possibly, because of the type of construction,” Kwapis said. “There’s a 10-foot diameter hole in the kitchen-family room area (because of the fire).
Firefighters had the flames extinguished within about 30 minutes and cleared the scene shortly after 9 p.m., he added.
The fire started in the basement but the cause is under investigation by the Oakland County Sheriff’s fire investigation unit, Kwapis said.
Mutual aid was provided by Oxford, Groveland and Hadley townships fire departments.
“Despite the amount of damage done, it was a good outcome when it comes to both animal and human lives,” he said.
The two displaced residents are staying with family nearby, he added.
