Case advances against woman accused of leaving duct-taped disabled sister and young child in stroller alone overnight

The criminal case against a Waterford woman accused of using duct tape to bind her developmentally disabled sister in her backyard, strapping her own 4-year-old child to a stroller inside her house, and then leaving them both in that state overnight and throughout the next day last September has advanced to Oakland County Circuit Court for possible trial.

Police officers called to the home rescued the two, according to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office.

The accused, Brittany Indonesia Ivory, is charged with unlawful imprisonment, second-degree child abuse and third-degree vulnerable adult abuse.On Monday, she waived her right to a preliminary exam inn 51st District Court. The judge then bound over the case to the higher court.

Ivory’s arraignment in circuit court is scheduled for Jan. 23 before Judge Jeffery Matis.

She faces up to 15 years behind bars and/or a fine of up to $20,000 if convicted of false imprisonment, and up to 10 years for second-degree child abuse. Third-degree vulnerable adult abuse is a high misdemeanor punishable by up to two years in prison and/or a fine of up to $2,500.

For now, she’s out of jail on a $10,000 bond.
