A young woman was rescued by Macomb Township firefighters over the weekend after her car ended up in an area ditch that was overflowing with water from recent rains and melting snow.

The Macomb Township Fire Department posted photos on social media of the water rescue incident that took place late Friday on 24 Mile Road near North Avenue. There were no injuries reported and the driver was able to stay dry throughout the rescue, according to firefighters.

Alison Adams, 20, of Macomb Township, described the frightening scene to Fox 2 Detroit.

“I lost control of my wheel, my brakes locked up and I lost complete control and ended up in a ditch,” she told the news station.

In a Monday post on social media, Adams thanked the “swarming” of firefighters, Macomb County Sheriff’s Office deputies and emergency medics who responded to the call. She also thanked her boyfriend Zac Harding who had responded with his mother to the scene.

Photos show firefighters clad in wet suits holding a 24-foot extension ladder that had been braced against the Kia Sportqage, which was partially submerged in the 4-foot-deep ditch. With their guidance, Adams was able to escape the trapped car.

“(I) crawled out of my window onto the windshield and across a ladder before they pulled my car out of the ditch filled and overflowing with water and ice,” she said in her Facebook post.

Adams, who is nicknamed “Peanut,” went on to thank firefighters for “being able to get me out of what felt like drowning.” Her car was later towed out of the ditch and she went home with her parents.

Fire officials said wet road conditions resulted in the crash. The rescue operation was one the department routinely trains for, officials said.

The National Weather Service had issued a flood warning for Macomb County on Friday after overnight rains and melting snow caused the Clinton River in Clinton Township  and its tributaries to overflow.
