A 32-year-old Holly woman is facing an animal cruelty charge for allegedly neglecting her dogs suffering illness.
The woman’s two dogs were recently euthanized, officials said.
As reported by the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office, the woman — Ariel Lowe — had given consent to have one of her dog’s euthanized by a veterinary clinic in January. The clinic alerted the Oakland County’s animal control center about the pet, which had a cancerous tumor on its face that had ruptured weeks earlier.
Lowes was subsequently found to have another dog in medical distress that was transported to the animal control center for care and euthanized for “humanitarian reasons,” the prosecutor’s office said.
“It’s unacceptable for animals to be made to suffer like this for an extended period. The veterinary clinic workers deserve praise for recognizing something was wrong and alerting authorities,” Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald stated in a news release. “Resources are available if animal owners have obstacles to obtaining veterinary services, but humans have an obligation to care for animals in their possession. I encourage everyone, if you are struggling to care for an animal or suspect an animal is being mistreated, please contact Animal Control.”
The animal control center, officially the Oakland County Animal Shelter and Pet Adoption Center, can be reached at 248-858-1090.
