Two men are facing charges for a string of restaurant burglaries in Troy, arrested in Highland Township after a store patron made a suspicious person/vehicle report, officials said.

As announced Monday by the Troy Police Department, Justin Shipp, 37, and Jackson Upton, 45, are charged with continuing criminal enterprise, multiple counts of breaking and entering with intent, and multiple counts of retail fraud for burglaries at 11 retail businesses.

The two were arrested Feb. 6 in Highland after someone called police to report a suspicious person/vehicle at the ACE Hardware store, police said. They attempted to flee but were apprehended.

According to investigators, the 11 overnight burglaries tied to Shipp and Upton happened late last year and early last month. The suspects reportedly threw large rocks through the businesses’ front windows, then went in and stole cash and register drawers, police said. They’d then drive away in a black Chevrolet Malibu, police said.

The Special Investigations Unit — made up of police officers from Troy and several other jurisdictions — collaborated to identify Shipp and Upton as the suspects, police said.

Shipp and Upton are held in the Oakland County Jail; Shipp’s bond is set at $750,000; Upton’s  is set at $1,000,000. They’re due back in court Feb. 20 for a probable cause conference.
