A motorist died Thursday morning after colliding with a gravel hauler on I-75 in Oakland County, officials said.

As stated on X by Michigan State Police, a preliminary investigation shows a 24-year-old woman from Houston, Texas was driving a Jeep Compass northbound on the freeway when she lost control near Woodward Heights in Hazel Park and spun into the path of the gravel hauler, also traveling north.

The gravel hauler struck the Jeep on the driver’s side and pushed it approximately 750 feet before stopping, MSP stated.

The Jeep’s driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The gravel hauler’s driver wasn’t injured, the MSP stated.

A stretch of northbound I-75 starting at Eight Mile Road was shut down due to the crash.

Crash reconstruction and medical examiner’s reports are pending as an investigation continues. The incident will also be reviewed by the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office, the MSP stated.

“We continue to remind drivers to slow down and drive carefully when road conditions change,” MSP Lt. Mike Shaw stated. “Troopers investigated over 35 preventable crashes across the district since midnight.”
