Marc Smith, 33, also known as rapper Cash Kidd, was ordered to pay $400 in fines and court costs Wednesday after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor traffic charge.
Smith was originally charged with speeding and driving with a suspended license and pleaded to a reduced charge of allowing an unlicensed person to operate his vehicle. The speeding charge was dismissed.
Judge Michael Chupa sentenced Smith in Center Line 37th District Court requiring that the fine be paid in full immediately.
Before setting the fine, Chupa asked Smith how much money he had with him in court that could be used to pay that fine. Smith told Chupa that whatever price he set, he would be able to pay.
“So if I said your fine is $5,000 you are telling me you’ve got five large ones with you right now?” Chupa said.
Smith confirmed that was the case. Chupa then set the fine at $400.
Smith’s attorney, Raed Mourad, told the court that his client was planning to visit a local Secretary of State office that afternoon to get a valid Michigan driver’s license.
“If you’re driving without a license, it doesn’t mean you’re a bad guy, but it tells me that you love your government so much that you are willing to pay extra money to the government for violating the law,” Chupa said.
Smith was ticketed on Nov. 30 in Center Line for going 1-5 miles over the speed limit. Last year, he was charged in New Jersey for allegedly threatening a crime of violence.
Smith is a Detroit native and has more than 162,000 subscribers on his YouTube channel. He is known for his songs “Oh My Mama”, “Who Shot You?” and his latest hit “Toxic Blessing.”
