An Oakland County woman accused of sex crimes against teens at a Wayne County juvenile detention center while working there is competent to stand trial, based on results of a psychiatric-psychological evaluation recently reviewed in court.
Svetlana Kuryanova, 34, of Farmington Hills has a new trial date — April 7 — rescheduled in Wayne County’s 3rd Circuit Court. Earlier, trial was scheduled for this past January but was put on hold pending results of the evaluation..

Kuryanova is charged with two counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct for alleged incidents that happened last April at Wayne County’s Juvenile Detention Center in Hamtramck, where she was employed as a juvenile detention specialist. The alleged victims were ages 16 and 17 at the time, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.
If convicted, Kuryanova faces up to 15 years in prison.
Following Kuryanova’s arrest, Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said “allegations in this case are among the most disturbing ones that I have seen.”
The alleged incidents were investigated by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.
Kuryanova’s trial will be held before Judge Mariam Saad Bazzi.
