A former contract employee for Farmington Public Schools facing sex crimes against a child is scheduled to have a preliminary examination next month where a judge will determine if there’s ample evidence for the case to move forward.
Andre Brown, 25, of Wixom, is charged with accosting a child for immoral purposes and child sexually abusive activity involving a 13-year-old female student at East Middle School in Farmington Hills. Investigators say he intitiated a private chat with the young girl and solicited inappropriate photos of her.
The girl subsequently told a school counselor about the chat, according to investigators.

Brown was a hall monitor and coached basketball and cross country at the school. He allegedly developed relationships with students and participated in conversation threads with them on Snapchat where he allegedly solicited the photos.
The preliminary exam is set for March 19 before Judge Todd Fox of 51st District Court in Waterford. For now, Brown is out of jail after posting a $6,250 bond. Conditions of his bond include no contact with minors, no social media and not returning to East Middle School.
Child sexual abusive activity is a 20-year felony. Accosting a charge for immoral prison is punishable by up to four years in prison.
In another sex-related case involving students and a former Farmington Public Schools coach, a March 19 trial is scheduled in Wayne County for Jerremy Thompkins, charged with one count each of second-degree criminal sexual conduct and fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct for allegedly assaulting two teen boys at his home in Detroit. Thompkins was an assistant basketball coach for Farmington High School at the time of his arrest last October.
Thompkins, along with Farmington High’s head coach Derrick McDowell and the rest of McDowell’s staff, were fired after an internal investigation was launched into allegations of sexual misconduct at the home of a coaching staff member.
