A small fire at The Flagstar Strand Theatre in Pontiac was doused before firefighters arrived, according to Waterford Regional Fire Chief Matt Covey.
No one was hurt, he said. The call for help came in at about 9 p.m. Tuesday from a person across the street who reported seeing flames in a front window at The Strand.
“The first arriving fire engine officer reported that they were met by an individual that had extinguished the fire with a fire extinguisher,” Covey said.
There is no structural damage to the building, he said, and Strand workers were expected to clean any other damage.
Alex Resnik, Flagstar Strand’s president, said the fire was very small.
“The extent of the damage was a table and some small portions of carpet,” he said. “Thanks to the quick action of two employees, the fire was quickly extinguished.”
Resnik praised the Waterford Regional Fire Department’s response time and the firefighters who “did a wonderful job of helping clear the smoke out of the area,” he said.
No events were underway on Tuesday, he said and none will be rescheduled as the result of the fire.
Resnik said a glue gun used for a creative project started the fire when it was unintentionally left on.
