A 15-year-old Ferndale boy who was shot in the head at the Westin Southfield Detroit in Southfield on Feb. 11 has died.
Deputy Police Chief Aaron Huguley of the Southfield Police Department said the teen died Thursday morning from his injuries. He’d been hospitalized on life support since being shot in the back of the head in a hotel room that had been rented out by an adult male last Saturday. The adult turned the room over to several teen boys who regularly got together as friends and left them unsupervised, according to Police Chief Elvin Barren.
Police aren’t releasing the name of the victim, but said he was a student at Loyola High School in Detroit.
An investigation continues into the incident, including who was responsible for the shooting, Huguley said. A 15-year-old Detroit boy believed to have had the gun used in the shooting was taken into custody soon afterward and remains in Children Village, Oakland County’s juvenile facility.
“There are a number of different layers, a number of different investigative avenues to pursue,” he said.
Barren is expected to provide results of the investigation including any charges issued by the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office.
