A Massachusetts man facing charges for allegedly threatening the Bloomfield Township treasurer through emails accusing him of Hamas affiliation will appear before an Oakland County Circuit judge and possibly have a trial.
Judge Kimberly Small bound over the case against Marc Aisen, 47, after he waived his right to a preliminary exam Friday in 48th District Court.
Aisen was extradited to Michigan several weeks ago for allegedly sending emails to Bloomfield Township Treasurer Michael Schostak, accusing him of being affiliated with the terrorist organization, child exploitation and more. He’s charged with using a computer to commit a crime and unlawful posting of message,
Along with Schostak, more than 190 others received the emails with the accusations and threats, sent between July and October of last year, according to the Bloomfield Township Police Department.
As previously reported by the police department’s public information officer, Nick Soley, Schostak initially ignored the emails but when they escalated and included his family he filed a complaint. That happened last October, and was followed up by detectives making contact with Aisen, ordering him to cease and desist communications with Schostak, his family, friends, colleagues and the other recipients, Soley said.
The harassment continued, Soley said, subsequently resulting in a two-count felony warrant being issued by the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office and Aisen’s extradition.
Aisen is scheduled to be arraigned Feb. 29 before Oakland County Circuit Judge Yasmine Poles.
