A Detroit man charged with bank robbery was ordered to stand trial after he waived his right to a preliminary examination Monday in Ferndale 43rd District Court.

Ricky Moore, 50, is accused of robbing Huntington Bank, 306 W. Nine Mile Road on Nov. 20.

He is jailed on a $250,000 cash bond.

There was a delay in Moore’s case when his court-appointed attorney requested he be examined to determine whether he was competent to stand trial.

Moore was sent to the state Center for Forensic Psychiatry in Saline in Washtenaw County.

The psychiatric hospital provides diagnostic services to the criminal justice system and psychiatric treatment for criminal defendants.

Based on a psychiatric report, Ferndale 43rd District Judge Joseph Longo ruled Jan. 25 Moore was deemed competent for trial and is set to be arraigned for trial in Oakland County Circuit Court before Judge Kwame Rowe at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 26.

On the day of the bank robbery, police said they got a 911 call from the bank while the robbery was still in progress. Officers said Moore entered the bank and passed a teller a note demanding money.

The suspect also implied he had a weapon, police said. Police declined to say how much money the suspect got in the robbery, characterizing it only as a “large amount.”

Moore was still inside the bank when officers arrived and was walking to the bank’s rear entrance when he was caught and arrested, police said. The bank robbery charge against him is punishable by up to life in prison.
