A 33-year-old Sterling Heights doctor has been charged with a 15-year felony and five counts of a five-year felony in a crash up north that killed one person and injured several others.
According to a report by WPBN-TV and court records, Dr. Shahed Hussain was arraigned Thursday in 86th District Court in Traverse on one court of reckless driving causing death and five counts of reckless driving causing serious injury for the Sept. 4, 2023 head-on fatal crash that also sent eight people to the hospital.
The incident occurred on a Leelanau County road where Hussain attempted to pass a slower vehicle and struck an oncoming vehicle, according to the report also on upnorthlive.com. One of the vehicles caught fire, and one of the injured individuals was a sheriff’s deputy.
Shahed Hussain is a resident at St. John Providence in Rochester Hills, according to the court, the report says.
He was arrested at his home and transported to Traverse City for the arraignment, the report says.
He is free on a $250,000 personal bond and faces an April 12 preliminary examination. He was ordered to turn in his passport.
