A June 3 preliminary exam is scheduled for a Pontiac felon accused of gunning down a man outside a Pontiac motorcycle club, killing him.

Malcolm Robert Boykin, 55, is charged with second-degree homicide in connection with the death of Charlie Isacc Odneal, 42, of Pontiac. Odneal died at an area hospital after being shot outside the Night Riders Motorcycle Club on Raeburn and Sanford streets on March 5, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.

The preliminary exam will be held in 50th District Court for the judge to hear evidence and then determine if there’s probable cause to advance the case to Oakland County Circuit Court for possible trial.

The shooting stemmed from an argument between Boykin and Odneal, who were acquaintances, the sheriff’s office said. Boykin was arrested at a motel the day after the slaying.

Along with the second-degree murder charge, Boykin is charged with assault with intent to murder, felon in possession of a firearm carrying a concealed weapon and multiple counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Boykin’s criminal history includes convictions for drug possession, car theft, weapons-related crimes and armed robbery. He was discharged from his most recent stay in prison in November 2022.

Boykin is held in the Oakland County Jail, denied bond.
