Madison Heights woman arrested with license plate she stole in Royal Oak
Police patrolling Woodward Avenue near Bembridge Road caught a woman driving with a license plate she is now charged with stealing in Royal Oak a week earlier.
A patrol officer Monday night ran the license plate number on a GMC Acadia and discovered the plate was stolen.
The plate was reported stolen from a Royal Oak resident’s vehicle Dec. 4 in the 4300 block of Robinwood Avenue.
Police said the suspect, a woman, 41, of Madison was arrested for felony possession of a license plate, which is punishable by up to 5 years in prison.
She also faces charges of driving an unregistered vehicle on a suspended license, having no insurance, and a misdemeanor charge in another city.
Man who fled police at 106 mph arrested in Lincoln Park
Royal Oak clocked a man driving a red Chevy Camaro at 106 mph along I-75 near Lincoln Avenue.
Police said he slowed down when he noticed the police car, then sped up again about 1 a.m. Dec. 5. Police terminated their pursuit because the man was driving over 100 mph, but an officer wrote down the suspect’s license plate number.
Royal Oak police flagged the plate number in a shared law enforcement system.
Three days later, Lincoln Park police came across the car at a house in that city.
Royal Oak police went to Lincoln Park to talk to the registered owner of the Camaro, who turned out to be the suspect’s mother.
She and her son came out of the house when officers arrived, and he was arrested for fourth-degree fleeing and eluding, a two-year felony.
Porch pirates hit Royal Oak
Multiple delivered packages were stolen from outside four owners’ homes during a recent 10-day period.
The most recent theft was in the 1800 block of Brockton Avenue on Dec. 7. A white SUV was seen in a surveillance video also with a younger male wearing a red hooded sweatshirt and a black mask who stole a delivered winter coat.
The same night, someone stole $400 worth of Carhartt jackets delivered to the inside of a building in the 1900 block of North Main Street.
On Dec. 2 and Nov. 28 packages were stolen from two porches in the 4400 block of Coolidge Highway. Among the stolen packages were $154 worth of clothes, and $1,200 worth of high-end makeup and other items.
Berkley police said Monday they arrested a Detroit man, 20, and a 17-year-old accomplice stealing items from porches and found they had about 20 items in a minivan that were stolen from Berkley and other nearby cities.
Royal Oak police said they are checking whether the suspects are connected to any of the Royal Oak thefts.
Man and woman steal eyeglass frames worth $600
A man and a woman posed as customers at Fashion Eyeglasses, 32756 Woodward Ave. before they each stole a pair of eyeglass frames and fled the store.
The couple had been trying on frames before they each grabbed a pair and bolted from the store
Police said each of the frames stolen in the theft reported Tuesday are worth $300.
