A Michigan State Police trooper and a person he had in custody were injured Wednesday evening when a teenager crashed into the patrol car stopped along I-75 near Clarkston Road in Independence Township, officials said.
As reported by MSP, the trooper and person in custody sustained lacerations to the face. The trooper’s arm was also injured. Both were in the passenger front seat of the parked patrol car when a Dodge Durango, driven by a 16-year-old, hit the patrol vehicle at around 6:30 p.m.
The impact pushed the patrol car into the car of the person in custody, MSP stated.

The person in custody, who had been pulled over on suspicion of impaired driving, was handcuffed and wearing a seatbelt when the crash occurred, MSP stated. I-75 was shut down at Sashabaw Road following the crash.
“We are very fortunate that the injuries in this crash were not more serious, or even fatal,” MSP Lt. Mike Shaw stated. “The one message we can take from this crash is to wear your seatbelt when in the car. It will save your life.”
The crash is under investigation.
