A former Farmington High School basketball coach has been ordered to prison for committing sex crimes against two male students at his home in Detroit.

At a hearing Friday in Wayne County’s 3rd Circuit Court, Judge Marian Saad Bazzi sentenced Jerremy Thompkins to 4-15 years in the Michigan Department of Corrections for fourth degree criminal sexual conduct – multiple variables, and a concurrent sentence of 1-2 years for second-degree criminal sexual conduct – student.

Thompkins, 43, was found guilty of both charges at the conclusion of a jury trial earlier this month. The assaults happened at his home in the 8500 block of Asbury Park Drive in Detroit last August through October.

Detroit police arrested Thompkins in late October 2023. The victims were a then-15-year-old from Farmington Hills and a then-16-year-old from Oak Park.

Thompkins was fired last October after the allegations were made and an internal investigation was launched. Head coach Derrick McDowell and the rest of McDowell’s staff also lost their jobs with Farmington High School.
