Two men have been arrested in connection with a narcotics investigation that took place Thursday morning and resulted in schools going into a lockdown after the suspects fled.
According to police, the arrests were part of a joint operation between the Michigan State Police and Drug Enforcement Administration.
The initial attempt to apprehend the suspects took place near Southland Center and Trader’s Point.
After an attempted traffic stop, police “darted” their vehicle with a StarChase GPS tracking device.
Their vehicle became stuck and a large chase took place as the men took off on foot to an area behind Trillium Academy.
The academy, along with Gudith Elementary School, was placed on lockdown as police searched a wooded area for the men.
Taylor police were given a heads up that the arrests were going to take place.
Once the men were on the run, Taylor police offered its drone to help in the search, and Brownstown Township police were requested to assist with setting up a perimeter to make sure the suspects did not slip through the cracks.
Police said the men might have been armed with guns.
Along with drones, the arrest included the use of four K-9 units and helicopters.
