One person is dead and another in critical condition from a shooting Sunday afternoon in Pontiac, and the hunt is on for the killer.
Json Markell Hunt, 27, of Clinton Township was fatally shot and another man, age 25, was also hit by gunfire at a business in the 400 block of West Huron, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office. The injured man was reportedly Hunt’s cousin.
This is Oakland County’s first reported homicide of 2024.
Sheriff’s deputies called to the scene at around 4 p.m. on a report of shots fired were met in the parking lot by the 25-year-old who told them he had been shot by an unknown assailant — and that Hunt was inside the business and had also been shot, the sheriff’s office said.
Deputies found Hunt lying on the floor with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the head, the sheriff’s office said. He was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene.
The injured man was transported to McLaren Oakland Hospital for treatment of several gunshot wounds. He was listed in critical but stable condition, the sheriff’s office said.
The sheriff’s office is not yet releasing the name of the business where Hunt was found, citing an ongoing investigation.
Sheriff Mike Bouchard is appealing to the public for assistance on the case.
“We could use the public’s help on this,” he said. “If anyone has information about who may have been present or involved, please contact us or Crime Stoppers. We will work diligently to hold the individual(s) Involved in this responsible.”
