Mourners will gather in Romeo Wednesday night to remember the memory of a local law enforcer killed in the line of duty last weekend.

The candlelight vigil in memory of Oakland County Sheriff’s Deputy Brad Reckling is set for 9 p.m. at Barnabo Stadium, located at Romeo High School, 62300 Jewell Road in Washington Township, is set to run until 9:45 p.m.

“Join us to honor and remember a husband, father, son, officer and friend,” a promotional flier and meme for the event states.

Organizers are encouraging those attending to carpool if possible and park in the lots that surround the school.

Reckling, a Romeo High School graduate, was killed in what Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard described as an ambush that began after a Rochester Hills resident reported a 2022 Chevrolet Equinox stolen from the Red Oaks Waterpark Park in Madison Heights. Three suspects were later apprehended.

No criminal charges have been brought in the case, which is being investigated by the Detroit Police Department.

A funeral will be held Friday at Apostolic Church of Auburn Hills. Visitation is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with the funeral immediately following. Both will be open to the public.
