A 42-year-old woman is dead after a Warren Police pursuit ended in a crash near 10 Mile and Dequindre roads early Saturday morning.
According to a statement from Warren police, officers were on patrol near Eight Mile and Ryan roads at 1:35 a.m. June 29 when they noticed three Dodge Chargers driving west on Eight Mile at high rates of speed. The uniformed officers, who were in a marked patrol vehicle, activated their emergency lights and sirens and all three Chargers fled from them.
The pursuit led officers north on Ryan Road before two of the Chargers turned west on to 10 Mile Road with the third continuing to travel north.
Officers followed the Chargers down 10 Mile Road and, after crossing Dequindre Road, one of them crashed into a Jeep Grand Cherokee in Madison Heights. A female passenger in the Cherokee was pronounced deceased.
The 26-year-old male driver of the Charger involved in the crash is hospitalized and in police custody.
The driver of the Cherokee is in stable condition along with two additional passengers of the Charger.
Police are working to identify the driver of the second Charger. The third Charger returned to the scene and its occupants are being questioned by police.
Officers say the chase took approximately three minutes and was closely monitored in real time by patrol supervisors.
The investigation is ongoing.
