A 20-year-old Commerce Township man is one of two people hurt in two separate incidents on Oakland County lakes on Thursday.

Commerce Township firefighters were the first on North Commerce Lake just before 6 p.m. on the Fourth of July, followed by Oakland County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team.

The man was seriously hurt after he dove into the water and hit his head on a sandbar about four feet under the surface. Others on the pontoon boat found him unresponsive and pulled him from the lake. He is in serious condition at an area hospital, according to Oakland County Sheriff’s officials. He was not wearing a life jacket and police are investigating whether alcohol was involved.

Operation Dry Water set to start on Oakland County lakes

Just 15 minutes earlier, the sheriff's search and rescue team aided a 29-year-old Waterford Township woman hurt on Union Lake after a riderless personal watercraft hit the boat she was on. She had been lying down where the personal watercraft struck the back of the boat. She suffered minor injuries to her feet and declined treatment at the scene. The 32-year-old Waterford Township man operating the personal watercraft had fallen off but was not hurt. Alcohol did not appear to be a factor, according to police.

Both incidents remain under investigation.
