Detroit pastor charged with sex crimes against Farmington Hills teen boy

A prominent Detroit pastor is accused of sex crimes against a high school boy in Farmington Hills.

Rev. Kenneth Flowers, 63, pastor of Greater New Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church in Detroit, was recently arraigned on charges of third-degree criminal sexual conduct-force or coercion and assault with intent to commit sexual penetration. At arraignment in 47th District Court in Farmington Hills, Magistrate Michael Sawicky set a personal bond at $25,000, meaning Flowers wasn’t required to post any cash or surety to stay out of jail for now.

Flowers, a Farmington Hills resident, is accused of using force or coercion to engage in oral sex with the teenager. It’s alleged the assault happened on Dec. 20, 2023 in Farmington Hills.

Third-degree criminal sexual conduct is punishable by up to 15 years in prison. Assault with intent to commit sexual penetration carries a penalty of up to 10 years in prison.

Flowers has been the pastor at Greater New Mt. Moriah since July 1995. His next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 7 for a pre-exam conference before Judge Marla Parker.
