Arraignment in a Detroit courthouse is scheduled for Thursday for a 17-year-old from Farmington Hills accused of fatally shooting a Detroit woman last month.
Brandon Butler is charged with first-degree premeditated homicide and felony firearm for the slaying of Tavita Hunter, 23. The case against him was bound over from 36th District Court to the 3rd Judicial Circuit following a preliminary exam last week.
If a trial occurs, Butler will be tried as an adult.
According to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, Detroit police dispatched on July 13 to the intersection of Cardoni and Robinwood streets for a reported shooting found Hunter lying on the grass. She had a gunshot wound to the back and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Butler allegedly shot Hunter after an altercation with her escalated, the prosecutor’s office said. He then fled the scene.
Arraignment in the higher court is on the 9 a.m. docket for Judge Kelly Ramsey.
