A preliminary exam is scheduled for a prominent Detroit religious leader accused of sex crimes against a high school boy in Farmington Hills, where a judge will determine if the case moves forward.
Rev. Kenneth Flowers, 63, pastor of Greater New Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church in Detroit, is charged with third-degree criminal sexual conduct and assault with intent to commit sexual penetration. A Farmington Hills resident, Flowers is accused of using force or coercion to engage in oral sex with the teenager on Dec. 20, 2023.

The preliminary exam is scheduled for Oct. 18 before 47th District Judge Marla Parker, who will be presented with evidence and then decide if there’s probable cause for the case to advance to Oakland County Circuit Court for possible trial.
Flowers is out of custody on a $25,000 personal bond, which means he wasn’t required to post any cash or surety to stay out of jail for now.
Flowers has been pastor at Greater New Mt. Moriah since July 1995.
