A fast-thinking Macomb County sheriff’s deputy is being credited with saving the life of a motorist who appeared to be in a daze after undergoing a medical episode while driving.
A videotape of the incident shows Deputy Nicole Miron climbing from a moving patrol vehicle into the window of a pickup truck as it proceeded down Gratiot Avenue in Mount Clemens and stopping it.
Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham praised the deputy’s action in putting herself in harm’s way to not only aid the driver but also protecting other motorists on the road.
“Due to her quick thinking and selfless actions, she safely ended what could have been a tragic situation,” the sheriff said in a news release.
The incident took place about 2:15 p.m. on Sept. 12 when deputies received reports that a GMC Sierra truck was driving erratically on Gratiot Avenue near Church Street.

Deputies spotted the truck near Remick Drive and activated their emergency lights and siren, but the 63-year-old man failed to stop. The truck continued moving at about 5 mph.
The deputies were able to pull alongside the truck when they noticed the driver appeared to be in a daze, unable to comprehend their requests, according to the release.
Eventually the driver of the truck rolled down his window and briefly hit his brakes.
That gave Miron, who was in the passenger side of the patrol vehicle, the time she needed to exit the window of the Sheriff’s SUV and climb into the truck while the vehicles continued traveling on Gratiot.
The video shows Miron climbing over the driver with his arms at his side and stopping the vehicle. She then called a family member to confirm the driver’s medical condition.
A Clinton Township fire truck was called to medically treat the driver. He was transported to an area hospital for further medical care.
