Two women were ordered to face criminal charges in Macomb County Circuit Court for breaking into the home of a Roseville man and stealing and destroying property in an alleged romantic-revenge scenario.

Colleen Compton, 30, of Warren and Brianna Cabano, 29, of Auburn Hills, were bound over Wednesday by Judge Kathleen Tocco of 39th District Court in Roseville on charges of second-degree home invasion, conspiracy, malicious destruction of property between $1,000 and $20,000 and larceny in a building. The judge’s verbal ruling announced over Zoom video followed three days of a preliminary examination, two days in October and one day earlier this month.

The women forced their way into the Roseville home of Otis Funches Jr. last April 11 after they discovered Funches had resumed sexual relations with Cabano, his ex-girlfriend, in the weeks prior to the incident while living with Compton at his home.

Cabano and Funches were both Detroit police officers.

A third defendant, Dayna Sears, 22, of Southfield, also a Detroit officer, previously waived her right to a preliminary examination on charges of second-degree home invasion, malicious destruction of property, larceny and accessory after the fact. Sears allegedly drove the trio to the home in her pickup truck, in which stolen items were placed.

Sears faces a Feb. 6 pretrial in front of circuit Judge Richard Caretti and Cabano and Compton face a Jan. 30 arraignment in front of Caretti.

All three are free after posting bond.

Cabano and Sears have been suspended from the force.

Sears allegedly parked the truck, occupied by all three women, in a business parking lot next to a wall behind Funches’ home on Huron Street near 10 Mile and Kelly roads. Cabano and Compton allegedly jumped the wall from the truck, broke into the home and damaged and stole $20,000 worth of items, much of it electronic equipment. They also stole one shoe from each of 25 pairs. Stolen items were placed in a Dumpster by Compton, who returned to the bin to retrieve them but they were gone.

Tocco said text messages among dozens of exchanges between Compton and Cabano show they plotted the event for three days after they discovered Funches’ two-timing.

The pair also made admissions in interviews with police. Cabano denied entered the home but Compton said she let her in after stepping on an air conditioner unit and breaking a window to enter, according to a Roseville police Det. Joanna Gudel.
