A 47-year-old Detroit man is accused of shooting at and later stabbing a co-worker in Warren following a road rage dispute, prosecutors said Thursday.
Lequan Denelle Brown was arraigned Wednesday in 37th Warren District Court on two counts of assault with intent to murder and other crimes. His bond was set at $500,000 cash/surety by Judge Suzanne Faunce.
According to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office, Brown and a co-worker were leaving their workplace in separate vehicles on Sept. 13 when the incident took place.
While the two were driving in the area of Van Dyke Avenue and Interstate 696, Brown allegedly shot at his co-worker’s vehicle multiple times, prosecutors said in a news release. No one was hit by the gunfire.
“Later the same day, both men returned to work and Brown attacked the victim with a knife,” officials said in the release.
The victim endured severe lacerations but is stable and has been released from the hospital.
In addition to the assault charges, which carries a penalty of life in prison upon conviction, Brown is also charged with possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, a five-year felony, and felony firearm, a mandatory two-year felony.
Macomb prosecutors say Brown is charged as a habitual third offender.
“Our community will not tolerate acts of violence, whether in the workplace or on the road,” Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido said.
If Brown is released from jail on bond, the judge ordered him to wear a GPS tether and have no contact with any of the witnesses. He also was referred to mental health for an examination.
He is due back in court on Oct. 1 for a probable cause hearing before Judge Michael Chupa.
