A Lincoln Park man is accused of threatening to beat an Oakland County road commission worker to death after being cited for driving recklessly through a construction zone.
The Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office accuses Kenneth Michael Oliver, 38, on Aug. 9 of driving on the closed shoulder in a construction area, plowing over construction cones and cutting off another car while entering back onto the roadway.
An inspector for the road commission who witnessed the in incident turned on her truck lights and honked her horn to warn construction workers at the site, according to the prosecutor’s office. It was unclear what road and in what community the incident occurred.
Oliver then allegedly exited his car, yelled at the inspector and pounded on her truck. He was cited for careless driving.
The prosecutor’s office said a threatening message was sent on Aug. 21 to the road commission’s social media account. In the message, Oliver allegedly told the inspector that he would find out where she lived and “beat her a** to death.” He also said he would shoot her and her family and ended the message by saying, “I got weapons,” authorities allege.
Oakland County Prosecutor Karen D. McDonald charged Oliver on Oct. 2 with malicious use of a telecommunications device, a misdemeanor punishable by up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.
“This was a public servant doing her job,” McDonald said. “She should not be subjected to such violent threats, nor should anyone else. I commend the Oakland County Road Commission staff who immediately reported this incident to law enforcement.”
