A Rochester Hills doctor already accused of secretly filming people in changing rooms at a local swim school is facing 17 new felony charges in connection with a series of alleged sexual assaults on a 6-year-old child in 2023 and 2024 that he also recorded, according to prosecutors.
Dr. Oumair Aejaz was charged Thursday with two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, three counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct, three counts of aggravated child sexually abusive activity, three counts of capturing images of an unclothed person and six counts of using a computer to commit a crime. If convicted, he faces up to life in prison.
Aejaz’s attorney, Mariell Lehman, did not respond for comment.
Aejaz allegedly sexually assaulted the child and recorded the assaults, according to the the Oakland County Prosecutor’s office.
“We know that there are additional victims, and we ask anyone with information to contact the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office at OCSOSIU@oakgov.com,” Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald said in a statement.
Aejaz is already facing 10 felonies for allegedly secretly recording five nude adults and children at a Goldfish Swim School in Rochester and another location that was unknown in August when prosecutors announced charges.
At a press conference in August, Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard warned the charged conduct was “the tip of the iceberg” and said there was far more to come. He said there could be hundreds more victims, possibly even more than disgraced Michigan State University sports doctor Larry Nassar abused.
Aejaz was arrested Aug. 8 and charged Aug. 13 with producing child sexually abusive activity in August 2023, five counts of using computers to commit a crime and four counts of distributing or capturing images of an unclothed person. The charged activity ranges from 2020 to 2023.
Aejaz is believed to have used his credentials as a doctor to record and sexually assault people in bathrooms, hospital rooms, changing rooms, closets, bedrooms and bathrooms over six years, Bouchard said.
“It goes beyond just capturing video. There is physical, assaultive, criminal conduct,” Bouchard said. “A woman is unconscious in her hospital bed, and he’s violating her. A 2-year-old is thinking they’re out for a great swim day and they’re being captured naked. There’s nobody who is out of bounds for this sick, sick man.”
In videos that have victims who have not yet been identified, Aejaz is allegedly sexually assaulting women lying unconscious in hospital beds, McDonald said. In some of the videos, Aejaz allegedly shows himself on video abusing the women, Bouchard said. They have not determined if those women are his patients or how he got access to them.
Two young women who were recorded naked while changing into their swimsuits at the Goldfish Swim School in Rochester have also filed a civil lawsuit against Aejaz. He also is the subject of two class action lawsuits filed in Wayne and Macomb counties against him and Detroit Medical Center Sinai-Grace Hospital and Henry Ford Macomb Hospital.
The lawsuits allege the hospitals gave Aejaz unfettered and unsupervised access to patients, which let him sexually assault and record thousands of people.
