The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office Drug Task Force seized a record 370 pounds of cocaine on Tuesday.
Just after 9 p.m., a traffic stop was conducted on a semi-tractor trailer on Pine Grove Avenue near the Blue Water Bridge, according to the sheriff’s office. During the traffic stop, about 370.7 pounds of cocaine were located inside of the semi, which is valued at about $16.5 million.
The suspect was being held Thursday at the St. Clair County Detention and Intervention Center awaiting arraignment.
“Thank you to St. Clair County road patrol, K-9 Brock, Port Huron Police Department, Michigan State Police and Homeland Security Investigations for their assistance,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release. “This seizure is the largest drug bust in the history of the Drug Task Force and the sheriff’s office. The DTF remains committed to fighting narcotics trafficking in our community.”
This follows another large bust just months ago, when on Aug. 1 a 42-year-old Canadian man was arrested, charged with transporting 266 pounds of cocaine.
