Re-trial scheduled for felon accused of slaying Farmington Hills man in Dearborn

A new trial is scheduled for a Detroit felon accused of murdering a Farmington Hills man four years ago, following a mistrial in Wayne County.

Robert Lee Bailey, Jr., 53, is charged with first-degree murder, felony murder, armed robbery, felon in possession of a firearm, and four counts of second-degree felony firearm in connection with the death of Darius Whiting. Prosecutors alleged Whiting was killed on Sept. 22, 2020 during an armed robbery in Dearborn. Police officers dispatched the next day to an alley on Schlaff Street, near Michigan Avenue and Schaefer Road, found Whiting’s body in a car.

It was subsequently determined Whiting died from multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office. He was 49 years old.

Bailey was arrested in February 2021. He has a prior conviction for second-degree murder and was on parole at the time of the Farmington Hills man’s slaying.

The re-trial is scheduled to start April 21, with 3rd Judicial Circuit Judge Mark Slavens presiding.
