A Pontiac man was set on fire early Wednesday morning during an assault by two men, officials said.
The suspects are a 30-year-old Pontiac man and a 28-year-old Independence Township man, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said the injured man, age 49, told them the assailants used an aerosol can and lighter to ignite the flames, and he was burned on the left side of his neck, arm and body. He was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
The sheriff’s office said on Thursday that they didn’t know the man’s condition, and declined to share details on what precipitated the attack and whether the suspects are in custody.
The assault happened in the 100 block of Cherry Hill Drive at around 1 a.m. Feb. 4, but the sheriff’s office said it wasn’t reported until that afternoon when the injured man’s daughter found out about it and contacted emergency services on his behalf.
Cherry Hill Drive is in the North Hill Farms apartment complex.
The assault is under investigation as an attempted murder. The Oakland Press will report further on the incident as more information becomes available.
