As the family of a woman missing for 39 years marks the anniversary of her disappearance, the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office is asking for tips that could solve the case.

Cindy Louise Moore, 28, had finished her shift at the U.S. Postal Service in Troy at 11 p.m. on May 23, 1985.

She was headed to the Warren home of her estranged husband, William Moore, to pick up their 2-year-old son and then was going to Independence Township, where she was staying with her parents.

She never picked up her son and never arrived at her parents’ home.

The last known sighting of her was by a co-worker who saw her driving her silver 1984 Ford Tempo near 14 Mile Road and I-75 about 15 minutes after she left work.

A week after she went missing, her car was found, backed into a parking space in front of Room 153 of the Red Roof Inn at 14 Mile Road and John R Road in Madison Heights.

Police determined the car had been there since the day after she was last seen. The car was locked. The keys were missing. There was no evidence of a struggle.

Detectives suspect foul play in her disappearance.

Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard believes that someone may know what happened to Moore. The Cold Case Unit for the Sheriff’s Office has been working on the case and hopes that publicity surrounding her disappearance may generate information that can explain what happened.

“Sometimes, after years have passed, people that had information or knowledge are more willing to share and come forward,” Bouchard said.

“Often times, the guilt has been weighing on them or the fear has diminished. Please help us give this family some closure. Contact us If you have any information that would be helpful.”

Her estranged husband was considered a suspect in her disappearance. Police say he admitted assaulting her during an argument and once grabbed her by the throat, though he was never arrested or charged.

A pool at the family home in Warren was filled in shortly after she went missing. Police dug up the pool and searched the backyard, but no body was found.

Cindy Moore had made a down payment on a mobile home in Auburn Hills. She was planning to move there with her son. All her clothes were left behind and her bank account hasn’t been touched since her disappearance.

Anyone with information should contact the Sheriff’s Office at 248-858-4950.
