Authorities have charged a Detroit man with the fatal shooting of one man and wounding four others, including a Macomb County woman that took earlier this week in Detroit.

Charles Deandre Carter, 47, was arraigned Wednesday on second-degree murder charges and other crimes before 36th District Court Magistrate Laura Echartee, according to Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy.

Carter is accused of shooting Luzell Etheridge, 46, of Detroit, who died at the scene. He also allegedly shot a 49-year-old woman from Eastpointe, a 31-year-old Southfield man, and a 56-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman, both of Detroit.

Prosecutors said a verbal altercation broke out early Monday between the suspect and several people.

“Carter produced and fired a handgun multiple times, fatally wounding Mr. Etheridge, and non-fatally wounding the four remaining victims,” prosecutors said in a news release.

The incident took place about 12:15 a.m. when Detroit police officers were dispatched to a reported shooting at a residence in the 17000 block of Ohio Street, in the area of W. McNichols Road and Wyoming Avenue.

When police arrived, they found Etheridge lying on the sidewalk in front of home, deceased, with a gunshot wound to the chest. The non-fatal victims were transported privately to a local hospital for medical treatment.
