A police investigation continues into the shooting of multiple people in Lathrup Village reported early Saturday morning.
Lathrup Village police said evidence is being processed as detectives work on the case. Six young people were shot; four suffered injuries that weren’t life-threatening and two were critically injured, police said. They are expected to survive but “will have a long road to recovery,” police said.
The shooting happened in the 17000 block of Margate Avenue. Police responded at around 12:20 a.m. on June 15 to find several people with gunshot wounds. Southfield police assisted Lathrup police at the scene.
“Our deepest concerns go out to the victims and their families affected by this senseless act of violence,” Lathrup Village Mayor Kelly Garrett stated. “We are profoundly saddened and stand in solidarity with those who are impacted.”
The mayor added that police are working tirelessly in the ongoing investigation, which will be transparent and the city will keep the public informed.
“This incident is a stark reminder of the devastating impact that uncontrolled gun violence can have on our community,” Garrett stated. “It is a heartbreaking and unacceptable means of addressing conflict. We must come together to find better ways to resolve our differences and ensure the safety of our residents.”
The shooting incident was one of two that happened on Saturday in Oakland County, both with multiple victims. The other occurred at a community water park in Rochester Hills that left 9 people wounded. According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, the shooter subsequently died by suicide at his residence in Macomb County.
