A man is in police custody following a non-fatal shooting Saturday morning at The Retreat at Farmington Hills apartment complex.

According to Farmington Hills police, the victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to Corewell Health Farmington Hills Hospital.

The shooting was first reported to police as family trouble in the 27000 block of Gateway Drive at around 2:30 a.m. While officers were en route, the caller reported a man had been shot and the suspect had fled the scene, police said.

Officers quickly located the suspect fleeing in a vehicle, police said. The vehicle was stopped and the suspect was seen holding a handgun, police said. Officers ordered him to drop the firearm, which he did. He was then taken into custody, police said.

Other officers gave aid to the victim until Farmington Hills firefighters/paramedics arrived and took over, then transported him to the hospital for injuries that weren’t life-threatening, police said.

As an investigation continues, anyone with further information on the incident is asked to call the Farmington Hills Police Department at 248-871-2610.

The Retreat at Farmington Hills is southwest of the 12 Mile Road-Middlebelt Road intersection.
