The incident unfolded at approximately 2:30 a.m. on July 27 at the Retreat at Farmington Hills apartments near 12 Mile and Middlebelt roads. Police said a 911 call came in reporting a man was attempting to kick in the door of his ex-girlfriend’s home and, while officers were enroute, the caller reported the situation had escalated into a shooting by the ex-boyfriend who had fled the scene in his car.

Officers pulled over McCombs in his car who was armed with a loaded handgun, police said. During a police interview, McCombs reportedly said he was upset his ex-girlfriend was seeing another man and that he had come to the apartment in the middle of the night to retrieve the children he has in common with his ex-girlfriend. He reportedly said he was kicking on the door and when his ex-girlfriend opened it he and the new boyfriend got into a physical altercation. McCombs ultimately fired four shots at the man, striking him in the hip and both hands, police said.

Following an investigation by Farmington Hills detectives, the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office issued the four-count felony warrant.

McCombs was arraigned July 30 before 47th District Judge Marla Parker who set bond at $250,000 with a 10 percent provision — meaning $25,000 cash or surety could keep him out of jail for now. His next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 7.
