A teenager from Farmington Hills is charged with homicide and felony firearm for a July 13 fatal shooting in Detroit, as announced Thursday by Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy.

Brandon Butler, 17, is accused in the July 13 slaying of Detroiter Tavita Hunter, 23. Police dispatched to the intersection of Cardoni and Robinwood streets at around 4:45 p.m. that day for a reported shooting found Hunter lying on the grass. She had a gunshot wound to the back and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.

Butler allegedly shot Hunter after an altercation with her escalated, the prosecutor’s office said. He then fled the scene.

Butler was arraigned Thursday afternoon in 36th District Court before Magistrate Malaika Ramsey-Heath. Bond was set at $200,000 cash/surety, and if posted he will be on house arrest with a GPS tether.  A bond redetermination hearing is scheduled for Aug. 5 before Judge William McConico. A probable cause conference is scheduled for Aug. 13 followed by a preliminary exam on Aug. 19.

Butler will be tried as an adult, the prosecutor’s office said.
